America’s Disappeared – Dorothy Gaines

Leading prison reform activist Dorothy Gaines, introduced by King County Council Member Larry Gossett, speaks in Seattle at the invitation of The Village of Hope. Dorothy, caught in the War on Drugs, was wrongfully imprisoned in 1994. Sentenced to 20 years, Dorothy spent 6 years in federal prison, until her pardon by President Bill Clinton. Dorothy links the assault of the prison sysytem upon working class and minority communities with inequality throughout society and asks “When are we going to close prisons and put that money into schools?”
